October update: Mental rest

Ahh, rest. It was a good goal for October in theory, right? To get more rest? Everyone needs a little more rest in their life.

Clearly I’m ready for my naptime, guys. Or at least I was freshman year of college! Sometimes I wonder how I had any friends at Vanderbilt…

Anywho. Back to rest. And naps. Naps are glorious, but getting more sleep isn’t always feasible! At that point, physical rest is no longer the goal.

But something that is feasible? Mental rest. Since I don’t really have time to get more physical rest currently with graduate school, I have been trying to focus on mental rest. Ironically, sometimes that means getting up a few minutes early so that I can start my day slowly and on the right foot!

My mornings are spent with #SheReadsTruth and breakfast with the Today show team. And occasionally a workout. These few minutes to myself in the morning are KEY for my mental health! Without them, I would start my day feeling harried and rushed. Two things I’m trying to avoid.

So today, take some time for you! Take some time to rest mentally. Take a few minutes to just breathe, and to reflect. Seriously – it works wonders.

Any other ways that you find mental rest? It is so important to be healthy body, mind and spirit!

    • I agree – mental rest is tough for me to achieve too! Hence I’m having to work really hard at it, ironically. And haha – thanks :) I knew someone would appreciate a good costume!

  1. I am kinda opposite of you in my mental rest. I tend to take it at night when everything is quite and I have some alone time. i does help, I just need to force myself to mot think about anything stressful!
