September: September of Service

Happy weekend, people! I used to think that I got excited for weekends as a child – but now I know the true joy of weekends as an adult. Those eight hour practicum days? Not my favorite thing.

So – when I was pondering what I wanted my September goal to be, one word kept popping into my head: “SERVICE”. Maybe it has something to do with the #SheReadsTruth Proverbs bible study that we have been doing. Y’all, if you are looking for some good old fashioned TRUTH? This is your study. Seriously, check it out. It has spoken volumes to my heart. Want some proof? Look at some of my latest Instagram photos!

It could also have something to do with the fact that I just finished my second week of a master’s in social work. And guess what? Social work is all about service! In fact, service is a core value of social work – I just read that in my homework last night.

So for September, I’m going to focus on serving others. Too often we get wrapped up in thinking solely about ourselves, believing that the world revolves around US and OUR problems. Pretty hard for a blogger to admit, huh? But I’m here, and I’m admitting it! I need a little nudge every now and then back to what I am called to do as a Christian, and that is to serve others.

I am so excited for this month! I think it is going to be one of my most challenging undertakings – after all, we as humans are self-centered by nature! So I’m going to need lots of (gentle) reminders. Will you help hold me accountable friends?

  1. Great goal Leah! Even though I’m not religious it is always great to give a helping hand to others. Mike and I will be volunteering at a few races in the next few months and I’m sure that there are other things that we could do.
