Fall weather. I woke up this morning to a crisp, brisk day – the sun was shining and the air was cool. I was in heaven. Since I have late classes on Mondays, I had time this morning to go for a run – something that I haven’t done in awhile!
Recently I have been trying to listen to my body more. A nagging twinge in my lower right leg led me to cut way back on my running and switch to more cross-training. And in all honesty, since I’m not currently training for any sort of race (other than the Color Run in October, but that is more for fun), my motivation to run is really non-existant. I have been loving strength-training and circuit training so much that I never really get the urge to run! And I believe that to stay committed to fitness, you have to do things that you enjoy. No burning-out for this girl!
But the weather this morning was just too pretty to resist. Plus, my new Asics were calling. I’m so sad that they are redesigning all of their shoes – I’ll have to pick another trusty style from the new selections!
So I set out for a few miles. Remember that whole no-training-plan thing? Yeah, that means that I really don’t have any goals when I set out for a run. Sometimes that can get me into trouble! This morning, I went out a little too quickly (thanks to the beautiful cool weather) and only got about 1.5 miles in before I switched over to a brisk walk.
In the past, I would have viewed this as somewhat of a failure. Only 1.5 miles? That’s nothing! But I’m learning that all exercise is good exercise. Any morning (or afternoon, or evening) that I get my booty moving is a win! I tacked a few arm weight exercises onto the end for good measure, and called it a day.
Fall running, I really enjoy you. I just need to warm back up into running shape to really make the most of you!
Do you change exercise preferences with the seasons, or do you stick with what you love no matter the weather?
