Goooooood morning everybody! It’s Friday – TGIF. No matter what kind of week I’ve had, I’m always excited for the weekend to arrive! It almost always means that fun things – and rest – are in store. This weekend we are headed to Paducah for a night to visit my grandparents. Should be a fun few days!
Since I have been back in Louisville this summer, I am LOVING being a member of my old gym again – Milestone Wellness Center. While the fabulous amenities and wide array of machines are enough to make me a fan, what really keeps me coming back day after day are the group fitness classes!
I know some people can be intimidated walking into a new fitness class, but they can be a great way to stay in shape and switch things up. Our bodies are constantly adapting to exercise and trying to expend as little energy as possible, so a new fitness class may be just what you need to break through a boring workout plateau! After all, switching it up keeps things interesting right?
Some of the classes that I love are P.U.M.P. (basically a weights/bands/strength class, with some cardio intervals sprinkled in) and Stretch (kind of like modified yoga), and last summer Taylor dragged me to the occasional Spin (biking) class as well. One day we even accidentally wandered into a Step (aerobic stepping) class! That was quite the experience.
Group fitness classes are a great way to learn new moves, break out of your old routine, and really push yourself. I find that I always work harder in a class than I would on my own – there’s no slacking when thirty other people are watching! I know that some people don’t enjoy when the instructors offer individual suggestions or corrections (ahem, dad) but I find them helpful. If I’m doing something wrong, I want to know so that I can improve!
Overall, group fitness classes can be a great addition to your workout schedule. If you are a member of a gym, definitely check into them! And it doesn’t have to be an expensive gym – even YMCA’s and some college gyms offer free classes to members. Don’t be afraid to try something new! I know that there are several other classes at Milestone that have definitely caught my eye…Zumba anyone?
