Book Review: “Gone Girl”

Good morning all! Thank goodness it is the weekend. I spent a lot of yesterday reading, reading, reading – and there’s more on the docket for today and tomorrow too! I’m sensing this is going to be a pattern for graduate school…

And remember that tall tower of books I’m supposed to be working through?

Yeah, that one. Well, things are probably going to stall a bit. BUT – I did finish up a book this past week that blew.my.mind.

“Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn. Y’all, this book is crazy. Crazy good, but also just plain crazy! It’s the story of Nick and Amy, a married couple from New York who have moved home to Nick’s old town in Missouri. On the morning of their fifth wedding anniversary, Amy goes missing…and then all hell breaks loose.

I don’t really want to tell you much more, because one of the strengths of this book is that just when you think you know what is going on, Flynn makes it clear that you don’t. Plot twists and turns abound! Some of them literally had me screaming out loud, they were so shocking.

The story starts off alternating between Nick telling his story in the present, and Amy’s diary entries for the last seven years. That may sound confusing, but it really isn’t hard to keep up between the two. I found myself tearing through pages because I was so curious - “What happened to Amy?”

If you love mysteries, pick this book up. Do it now. You won’t be sorry. Just be prepared for your mind to be blown!
