Birthday bonanza

Top of the morning to you – hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far! Mine started off on a good note last night, with a little birthday celebration: Reid turned 19!

Since his dad and brother and my dad were all out of town for a lacrosse tournament, it was a birthday celebration featuring Reid and his harem of ladies: his girlfriend, Keely, his Auntie Jen, me and his Aunt Jill, aka my mom. Even though it was a smaller-than-usual crew, we still had a good time!
First things first, some presents were opened. Remember when I ventured into the ghettos of London to retrieve a certain shirt for a certain soccer team? Good thing Reid loved it!
We also got a Zac Brown band CD and some cologne from us, and a to-yet-be-purchased laptop case from Auntie Jen. Plus some cookies and cream cupcakes hand-baked by yours truly, courtesy of How Sweet Eats.

From there, it was off to dinner! We headed to The Silver Dollar, a really cool new restaurant on Frankfort Ave. It is housed in an old firehouse, so it was pretty loud (good thing Dad wasn’t there!), but the atmosphere was rocking. They had a really large beer list plus some cool cocktails – sadly for Reid this was birthday #19, not #21. Two more years bud!
After some empanadas and sweet potato fries for appetizers, we all settled in to wait for our main courses. I got the Molletes sandwich, basically two big toasted pieces of bread smeared with black beans and topped with melty cheese, spicy sauce and salsa. Plus a side of mashed potatoes. Yum! Reid got a huge steak, Mom had a pulled pork sandwich, Auntie Jen got a big piece of fish, and Keely got a pile of brisket the size of her head. Everyone scarfed theirs down – I think this place was definitely a hit!
Then it was back home for a cupcake before the youngsters set out for their night on the town – funny to think that I’m not in that category anymore, haha. Well, at least for this I wasn’t! All in all, it was a good night. I will definitely be visiting the Silver Dollar again soon! Happy birthday Reid :)
